There are many beautiful beaches in the coastal region specially if you travel on NH17 from Mangalore to Goa.Sea is a part of people’s life in coastal regions and its bread and butter for them.
Kaup, pronounced as Kapu is a tiny village near Udupi has a beautiful beach and lighthouse. The best time to visit is in the evenings. You can climb up to the top of the Light House which gives an amazing view of sunset and the sea.

Malpe beach which is around 10km from Udupi is also a nice beach to spend the evenings. Its vast and clean.
Recently they have constructed a resort near by the beach for food, water sports and accommodation.
Water sports like fast boat, family boat are introduced newly here.I would not recommend them as I did not feel they are taking much precaution while doing all these activities.
You do not find any starfish, shells on the shore much here. But as you go further you will get Hoode Beach where you can varieties of shells ,crabs etc.

Jomlu teertha is a small water fall created by River Seethanadi. It is around 35km from Udupi and 10km from Hebri. Teertha means holy water in kannada.
Water falls from a small height and you can take a nice bath.
Ideal picnic spot and a weekend gateway from Udupi. There are buses to hebri from Udupi and from there you need to take a private vehicle. No food is available on the spot and you definitely need to carry some food.We spent a whole day there took bath, had lunch and did fishing also

My dad had an interesting conversation with the local guy there ..
Dad – why very less crowd nowadays ?
Local guy – Not many come here because of Naxalites.
Dad – Oh is it ?
Local guy – Yes they are everywhere. Usually they don’t do anything to local people but they target tourists for money etc.
Dad – Yeah, if they started troubling the locals, they wouldn’t be able to exist here at all !!! [ little sarcastic ]
