It’s been more than 6 months now since we came here but still we haven’t seen San Fransisco completely which is one among the popular international tourist destinations. As of now the Golden Gate Bridge is my favorite weekend spot in San Fransisco.
The Golden Gate Bridge is the longest suspension bridge which connects the city of San Fransisco and on the northern tip of the San Francisco Peninsula to Marin County.Opened in 1937,this is the second largest suspension bridge in United States. The Frommers travel guide says the Golden Gate Bridge is the possibly the most beautiful, certainly the most photographed, bridge in the world which is very true!!.
Unfortunately, this is also the most popular suicide point in the world.Though there is no accurate figure on the number of suicides or successful jumps since 1937, because many were not witnessed. People have been known to travel to San Francisco specifically to jump off the bridge!! .There are different vista points which give different views of the bridge.
South bound Vista Point which is accessible from the city (San Fransisco) and gives a perfect postcard view of the golden gate bridge.
Fort Point The historic fort which is at the base also gives a good view of the bridge.
North bound Vista Point which is at the other end of the bridge and usually free compared to south bound.
Marine Headlands This vista point is on the top of a hill so it gives a full view of the bridge.Photographers wait here till dark to get the view of the bridge in lights.
Baker Beach which is on the south side gives a view of the bridge from water level.
Ghirardelli Square is also a good place which gives a beautiful view of the golden gate bridge.
You can park in any of these vista points and enjoy the view or take a walk/bicycle ride on the bridge.
