If you have visited Paajaka,which is the birth place of Shri Madhwacharya then you must be knowing about Kunjaru Durga Parameshwari temple which is close to Paajaka.The temple is situated on top of a small hillock.Kunjaru means Elephant. The hillock looks like elephant from far and hence its called Kunjarugiri.
According to legend,the temple was founded by Sage Parashurama,one of the ten incranations of Lord Vishnu.
The godess is Shri Durga,the destroyer of Mahishasura.The idol is small and we can see her holding Shanka,Chakra,Bow and Trident in her her arms.

Its believed that Shri Madhwacharya used to visit this temple everyday during his childhood.
You can climb the hill through steps or there is a vehicle path also.
The month of Shravana is very auspicious for visiting this temple.During this month,specially on fridays thousands of devotees come and offer prayings to goddess durga.During these days they will mainly perform Flower Pooja/Hoo Pooje to godess Durga Devi which is believed to be very auspicious.

There is no good transport facility for this place.So its better if you hire some private vehicles to come here.
Its around 15 km from Udupi.From Udupi come to Katapady and take diversion inside.
