Jagannatha Dasaru/ ಜಗನ್ನಾಥ ದಾಸರು

Manvi is also an important place for Madhwa Brahmins. This is the hometown of Jagannatha Dasaru who wrote the famous Harikathamruthasara. They have a very small temple for Jagannatha Dasaru where we can see his padukas and an idol.I remember my grand ma saying that on his birthday or some auspicious day...

As I have started writing about the Hanumaan temples installed by Sri Vyasateertharu I got requests from readers to write about these temples.
One is in Hosahalli Sanjeevaraya Swamy which is near Chanaapatna(3 km from Channapatna) near Bangalore. The temple was construted during the periood of Vijayanagar Empires. The statue of Hanumman is in standing position. The deity is believed to be having healing powers and hence is called Sanjeevaraya.

One more is Pranadevaru @ Brahmanyapura.
The idol is very beautiful here and its a combination of Hanuma,Bheema,Madhwa. This place is also near Channapatna.Sri Brahmanya Teerthru,Sri Vyasa Teerthru and Sri SriPadarajaru together installed this idol.
If you see the idol, the hairstyle on the head (shika) it represents Shri Madhwacharya, the idol is carrying Soughandhika Pushpa which represents Bhima and the tail, face represents as Hanuma.
This link gives more details on that.

information provided about pranadevaru bramhanyapura is wrong. lord hanuman gave darshan after returning from lankapatna meeting seetamaata giving choodamani to her, this is the only place where he has given darshan. he is holding in his left arm a bunch of five mangoes depocting he is the lord of panchapraana, not flowers. also showing shanka and chakra depicting he is the form of madhuuacharya. mangoes depicting bheemasena and the muurti itself showing awatar of hanuman. this is the only place where three great pillars of madhuua phylosophy together did the punar pratishtapan of the idol when great saint bramhanya theertaru while constructing the lake boundry found the idol lying backwars he summoned his deciples great saint sripadarajaru and his deciples srivyasarajaru who was at his teenage. and all three great saints were a part of punar pratishtapan of the idol. so it holds very high significence on the hanumadh vrata day…..

I am also documenting about the hanuman idols installed by Sri Vyasaraja. Please visit my blog at
