There are few very old and famous Durga Devi temples near Udupi.Godess Durga is worshipped as Durga Parameshwari or Mahishamardini in these temples.
Neelavara,a small town around 18km from Udupi has a old and famous temple dedicated to Goddess Mahishamardini.Apart from the main deity you can also see Ganapathy and Veerabhadra idols inside the temple.During navaratri and in general on fridays large number of devotees visit the temple.
Below is the idol of Shri Durga Parameshwari worshipped in the temple.

Do not forget to visit the Go Shala (cow-center) which is few kilometers away. This cow-center is maintained by Pejavar Mutt. Cows which are abandoned on the roads due to age, disease or no food and shelter are being rescued and taken care here.I really enjoy spending time with them giving food, water and talking to them.
