I spent couple of days in the NewYork City, which was never in my wishlist.Somehow I am visiting places which are not in my wishlist.Never mind I did enjoy my visit to NYC.
NYC is a vibrant city full of moving people, speeding taxies, tall buildings, colorful lights and much more..People dont walk they run here! You can see only vertical tall buildings. I’ve never seen such perfect use of space anywhere! One such example is Port Authority Bus Stop which was multi storied.City is awake most of the time. Come to Times Square at night 2AM and you might not find place to stand!Lots of street food.People stand in queue and eat food!City is not clean as compared to other places of USA.You can see garbage everywhere. Also saw lots of beggars and women smokers around the city.
There is already a lot of information in the internet which comes among the top most tourist attractions of the city.Below I have my favorite listings.Buying a Newyork city pass is a better option as it saves time and money.
Times Square
Its a just intersection of 4 streets and few steps which are in red color. But actually the huge LCD displays with colorful ads, tall buildings with lightings and people around you makes you feel its very vibrant and awesome. The place got its name because of the New York Times building which has been shifted to few streets across now.Don’t forget to visit Bubba Gump’s store here!
Rockfeller Center/Empire State Building
Both this multi storied buildings are good options for seeing the newyork city from top.In Empire State Building you can ride up to 86th floor which is amazing. The observatory desk in this floor offers a panoramic view of the city. You can spot all the major buildings of new york including Brooklyn bridge.Rockfeller center is much similar to that except that we can view the city from 60th floor. But this has a nice launge, cafe and gives a much more good view of the city. You can also visit NBC Studios,RadioCity Music Hall in Rockfeller Center.Choose one of the observatory building for morning view and other one for night view.
(Above picture is taken from Rockefeller Center and the huge tower with white lights is Empire State building.
Remember King Kong hanging to the building in the movie? )
Museums in NYC
Few of the must visit museums in New York are MOMA ,Metropolitan museum of Art and Natural History Museum.MOMA is modern museum of art which has great paintings from many painters including Picasso. Not only paintings it also has sculptures done by great artists, some of the outstanding photo collections and rare and old models of vehicles, electronic items etc.
Metropolitan museum of Art has a great collection of American,Asian,European and Egyptian art and sculpture collections. The special collection includes Arms and Armor,The Cloisters,Greek and Roman Art.Each collection is unique and outstanding. We couldn’t cover few of the divisions due to lack of time. But this is one among the nicest and good museums I have visited. You might need a entire day to see it completely.
Below picture shows where a lady is sketching the art. Most of the arts and designs were truly inspiring.
My favorite here was the Victorian and European style furniture collections which included Dining and BedRoom sets which were really marvelous.
Natural Museum of History is the one where the movie Night at the Museum has been taken. You can see the giant Dinosaurs, the monkey, the statue of Robin Williams etc here. But the museum is not as good as the one which is in San Fransisco.SFO has a very nice natural history museum consisting of aquarium, rain forests, planetarium and mammoth shows which was very good compared to NewYork museum. One interesting thing I spotted here was Aladdin’s lamp!! which is below with details.
Liberty Statue and Ellis island
Who doesn’t know about Statue of Liberty? Its a statue of lady with a crown on her head and holding lamps in her hand. The interesting part is that you can climb up to her crown which is an awesome experience.
There are cruise services which takes you to statue of liberty and Ellis Island.
Ellis island has historical importance as it served as a entrance for immigrants who came to America. From 1892 to 1954, over twelve million immigrants entered the United States through the portal of Ellis Island. You can see the immigration station, photos of immigrants and their families, their clothes etc here. You can also witness many photos and newspaper cuttings displayed here which explains how the white people used to treat blacks, the slave culture practiced those days etc. There is also a center for finding the family history of people who might have come as immigrants to America.
NewYork Library
New York Public Library is one among the largest libraries in the world and it is also a popular tourist attraction spot.Currently, the New York Public Library consists of 87 libraries four non-lending research libraries, four main lending libraries, a library for the blind and physically challenged, and 77 neighborhood branch libraries. The main branch consists of 3 floors to explore. The library has collection Shakes Per’s first printed books, the first printed Reader’s Digest Book and ancient copy of Gutenberg Bible.Rose Mary Reading room, Public Catalog Room are designed with marble pillars and beautiful chandeliers.

Brooklyn Bridge
Brooklyn Bridge connects NYC to Brooklyn. This bridge gives a beautiful view of the city in daytime as well as night.During night, you can just relax in Hulton Park which gives a very panoramic view of the city and the bridge. One more thing I would like to mention here is most shots of the movie Kal Ho Na Ho has been taken here.
Central Park
One sure thing you should not miss in NYC is Central Park. Its huge, green and beautiful.Rent a bicycle and explore the park. The park boasts several lakes, beautiful gardens,Strawberry Fields, Sheep Meadow, turtle ponds, fountains etc.You will need minimum 3-4 hours to explore the park completely.
NewYork City is a fashion city.5th avenue is the fashion street of the city where you can find all the big brands and most stylish collection of cloths, bags, jewelery, watches etc.Its a experience to walk in this street and explore these shops one by one.Don’t miss the Apple shop which is at the end of the street. Its fully made out of glasses and transparent. You don’t feel its a shop until you get down through steps!!.
