Situated remotely in a small town near Mangalore, this place is the abode of Goddess Shri Durga Parameshwari.

Personally this is one of my favourite Durga Temples in South Canara Region.One good thing about most of the temples in South Canara district is that they are not yet commersilized.They follow the traditions and rituals with great importance without expecting extra monetary benefits.
River Nandini flows near by the temple and you need walk over a small bridge to reach the temple.The shrine of the goddess is small and its inside a sanctum sanctorum.She is holding shanka and chakra in her two arms.
Goddess here likes saree and bangles.Giving saree to goddess is considered to be one of the sevas here.There is also a tradition of distibuting black bangles as ‘Prasadam’ to women devotees on special days.Inside the temple,there is also a shrine of Lord Ganapathy.
The temple is also popular for promoting the traditional dance/play of coastal region i.e. “Yakshagana“.
Its believed that godess Durga fond of dance and music and Yakashagana is one of the special offerings made to the devi. People pray to goddess here and once their wishes are fulfilled they arrange a Yakshagana Show.The temple has its own Yakshagana Troupe which is also called as Kateel Mela.

During Navaratri/Dassera, spcial poojas and homas are performed and thousands of devotees visit the temple to seek blessings from goddess.The temple trust also runs educational institutions which provides free education to children.
