Carmel is one of my favorite gateways in California.Situated on the Monterey Peninsula,120 miles from San Fransisco this beautiful small town is known for its natural scenery and rich artistic history.
The first place we visited was Carmel Mission.Founded in 1770,this mission is one among the 9 beautiful missions that stretches along the Central California Coast.Pope John Paul has visited this mission in 1987.A self guided tour explains in detail about the mission. You can see antique furnitures,a piano and beautiful paintings of Jesus and Mary inside the mission. The building also has a bell tower and a small museum.
More photos of the mission is here.

We stopped for lunch at Mission Ranch. This historic resort was restored by Clint Eastwood, a popular American actor and director. Restaurant at the resort allows you to enjoy the spectacular views of Carmel River Beach and the Pacific Ocean. You can also watch the sheep graze in the meadow and enjoy your lunch which is nice.

Next we headed towards the town where you can see lots of small shops,family-owned boutiques and big malls.Small streets,no traffic signals and no sidewalks in this commercial area.I saw many elderly people having good time walking, shopping and enjoying drinks in restaurants.Carmel offers a verity of shops for buyers which includes clothes, jewels, antique collections, furnitures etc.Shopping here is truly a unique experience.
