There are quite a few places in North Canara (Sirsi,Yellapur etc) which are not exposed to tourists much.Main reason is being lack of good transportation facilities and other is bad roads or no roads at all.
Sahasralinga is one such spot which is near by Sirsi. As the name says the place has 1000 or more lingas carved on stones on the bank of river Shalmala.

History says all these shiva lingas were built by Sadashivaraya, king of Sirsi (1678-1718).
We can also see so many Basava/bulls which are carved in front of the shivalingas.

Observe the below one where the shiva linga has gone (might be because of the flowing water).
Its a very calm and quite spot amidst the lush green nature and best place to get relaxed. There is no food available so you can pack something, eat here and spend a day with nature. Please do not throw used papers, plastic covers, hand bags which were already piled up there. You can see that some of the lingas are damaged, some of them half broken.I believe government should declare it as heritage spot and should take some actions to protect these shiva lingas.
Best way to reach this spot
Jeeps are the best transportations modes here.Hire a jeep from Sirsi and this place is around 20km from Sirsi.
