Hulpalya/Spinach Dal

Falls

Ingredients :
Spinach(Palak or Menthe) – 2 cups ( chopped and washed in water)
Toor Dal – 1 cup
Green chillies – 7-8
Hing – a pinch
Jeera/Cumin seeds – 2 tsp
Cilantro – 1/2 cup (chopped)
Tamarind Juice – 6 tsp
Salt

Boil the toor dal in cooker with a pinch of turmeric powder.Take a pan,add oil,mustard seeds.When the mustards starts spluttering add the spinach and allow it to boil till it becomes soft.Add little water,if the spinach doesn’t leave water by itself.
Grind the Chillies,Cilantro and cumin seeds in a mixer and make a smooth paste.
Add the cooked dal,grinded paste to the spinach pan.Add tamarind juice and salt.
Boil it for 15-20 minutes.Should not be too watery/thick.Make a medium gravy by adding little water.
